May 18, 2010: An Awesome Day for New Music

May 26, 2010

On May 18, 2010 four great new albums were released. Each one was critically acclaimed and competes for best album of the year amongst music fans.

The Black Keys – Brothers

This time they did it without Danger Mouse, but the results were just as compelling, if not better than their 2008 release, Attack & Release. It’s soulful, gritty, moody, and unapologetically authentic.

Best 3 tracks: “Tighten Up” ~ “The Only One” ~ “The Go Getter”

Janelle Monáe – The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III)

Out of all of the albums released so far in 2010, this just may really be the best album released. It’s eclectic, dynamic, innovative, and absolutely refreshing. There hasn’t been a new artist to drop such an epic debut album in a very long time.

Best 3 tracks: “Tightrope” (feat. Big Boi) ~ “Say You’ll Go” ~ “BaBopByeYa”

Nas and Damian Marley- Distant Relatives

Two of hip-hop’s most talented artists come together to create an optimistic uplifting album that seems to be a love-tribute to the mother continent of Africa. Nas’s hungry effortless flows mesh well with Damian Marley’s smooth laid back thought-provoking cool. Bound to be a cult classic for hip-hop heads.

Best 3 tracks: “Tribes At War” (feat K’ Naan) ~ “Count Your Blessings” ~ “Dispear”

Reflection Eternal- Revolutions per Minute

After 10 years, Refection Eternal delivers its long-awaited highly anticipated sophomore album. Talib Kweli delivers some of the best verses of his career and Hi-Tek exhibits refreshing signature beats. The album is a little dark in tone, but doesn’t hold back at being essentially hip-hop.

Best 3 tracks: “In This World” ~ “Lifting Off” ~ “Just Begun” (feat. Jay Electronica, J Cole and Mos Def)
